Auroville is located about 30 minutes drive from Pondicherry town centre. The multinational community is based on sustainable living. More than 1000 foreigner permanently live here and the community itself produce a variety of sustainable product that can be purchase at the visitor centre.

Entrance fee is free and it is advisoble to visit Auroville in the morning as the weather is much colder.

The main attraction is the gold shaped dome but to visit it you need to booked at least one day before.

This beach is popular among local tourist in Chennai India. Along the road leading to the beach there are a lot of stalls selling handcraft including Taj Mahal replica, idols and foods.

Even after Indian independence in 1947, Pondicherry is still part of French until 20 years later.

Until today, the so called White Town have better city layout and cleaner cities compared to their Indian counterpart.

 

Pondicherry is 3 hours by car from Chennai International Airport.

 

The best time to visit Pondicherry is in December and January as there the weather is nicer around 20-25 degrees during the day and below 19 degree at night.
